There are several dosing regimen in place to counter antimicrobial resistance (AMR), according to the World Health Organization (WHO). In this webinar of our webinar series on antibiotics, we want to highlight two of them as Oral Solid Dosage (OSD) formulations in hard capsules.
One is the use of fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapies consisting of more than one antibiotic in a single dose or hard capsule respectively. Of course, FDC’s also pose some inherent issues and so far only a few are approved by the US FDA, or included on the WHO Essential Medicines List (EML). Nevertheless, such FDC’s gain importance in many countries, among them India and China. Therefore, we expect more clinical trials in this direction. Suitable laboratory equipment is needed.
Another formulation is the change from systemic (delivery) to delivery into the lungs. Attracted by the clinical benefits observed in cystic fibrosis (CF) and the availability of dry powder antibiotic formulations, there has been a growing interest in the use of inhaled antibiotics.
We want to look into the dosing technologies to manufacture such hard capsule based formulations (on our capsule filling equipment), from clinical stage to large-scale manufacturing. Besides the dosing applications, we also would like to elaborate on operator protection measures and cleaning validation.
