A talk by David Rankine. With the Conversational Solfege approach, music literacy starts with great literature and an "ear-before-eye" philosophy that correlates with the National Standards and Canadian Music Curricula. Great songs from around the world are broken down into their tonal components first by using Solfege syllables and patterns, then folk songs and classical music in both 2/4 and 6/8 times. They are then reassembled so that students can bring greater musical understanding to everything they do with the ultimate goal to create fully engaged, independent musicians who can hear, understand, improvise, read, write, and compose.
