Jaqueline Jodl, PhD
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF GLOBAL YOUTH & EDUCATION
Jacqueline Jodl leads the Global Youth and Education team at Special Olympics. Before joining Special Olympics, Jackie was an Associate Professor at the University of Virginia, focusing on social-emotional development, education innovation, and race and education. Previously, Jackie was an Executive Director at The Aspen Institute, where she led one of the Institute’s most critical endeavors in education. Jackie earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, MBA from the University of Chicago, master’s degree from Teachers College, and PhD from Columbia University.
Lou Lauria
CHIEF OF SPORT AND COMPETITION
Lou Lauria is the Chief of Sport and Competition at Special Olympics. Lou has over 24 years of international sport and major event experience including roles within the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and International Olympic Committee (IOC). He is recognized as an international expert on the intersection of sport and disability. Lou received his bachelor’s degree from Emerson College where he serves on the Alumni board.
Roy McConkey, PhD
EMERITUS PROFESSOR OF DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
Roy McConkey is Emeritus Professor of Developmental Disabilities at Ulster University, Northern Ireland. A psychologist by training and a native of Belfast, he has previously held posts in England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland. He has been visiting Professor at the University of Cape Town, South Africa and at Trinity College, Dublin.
He has worked in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities for nearly 50 years and has authored, co-authored and edited over 15 books, and published around 200 book chapters and research papers in learned journals. His latest book is: Disability and Human Rights: Global Perspectives, which was published by Palgrave Macmillan.
David Duncan
SPECIAL OLYMPICS JAMAICA ATHLETE LEADER
David Duncan got involved with Special Olympics in 2008. Currently, he is an Athlete Leader, Health Messenger, and volleyball player for Special Olympics Jamaica. David also serves as the Chairman for the Caribbean Athletes Leadership Council. He is an aspiring coach and mentor to younger athletes and has completed several online trainings for coaching through Special Olympics. At Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, David won gold in volleyball, along with bronze in Unified volleyball at the 2017 Latin American Games in Panama.
Michelle Campbell
SPECIAL OLYMPICS JAMAICA ATHLETE PARTNER
Michelle has been playing Unified volleyball with Special Olympics Jamaica since 2016. Currently she is the captain of the Unified volleyball team and training to become a coach. Michelle participated in the 2018 University of Technology Jamaica Games and in the 2019 World Games in Abu Dhabi where she won bronze with the unified female team. Her inspiration for participating in Unified volleyball is to bridge the gap between persons with and without intellectual disability to show that we can co-exists together on the field of play and in life in general.
