Advance beyond Doing Reading to Teaching Reading

About This Webinar

Many teachers find themselves doing reading with very little time spent teaching it. This is a subtle but significant distinction. Our class periods and reading blocks are often filled with students practicing, experiencing, and applying comprehension skills; they are “doing” a lot of reading. However, none of these instructional times include the explicit teaching of a new comprehension skill.

This 45-minute webinar will honor the various experiences packed into the typical reading block/ELA class period, and show educators how to teach reading with whole-class comprehension lessons.

Agenda
  • Acknowledge the purpose that various reading experiences serve within the reading block/ELA class period.
  • Make time to teach whole-class comprehension skills within any content area.
  • Identify the specific and explicit information that must be revealed when teaching any new comprehension skill.
