Alaya Dawn Johnson is an award-winning author of speculative fiction for young adults and adults. She grew up in Washington, D.C. and attended Columbia University, where she majored in East Asian languages and cultures. Her young adult novel “The Summer Prince” was longlisted for the National Book Award and won the Cybils Award. Johnson’s young adult novel “Love Is the Drug” won the Audre Norton Nebula Award. Her newest novel, “Trouble the Saints” (Tor), is an adult historical fiction novel set in New York City at the dawn of World War II. It explores racial injustice, love and fate. She now lives in Mexico City, where she recently received a master’s degree in Mesoamerican studies from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
