Zhanna Malekos Smith

Jessica 'Zhanna' Malekos Smith, J.D., is a professor of cyber warfare studies with the Air War College and a senior associate with the Center for Strategic and International Studies Technology Policy Program. A former captain in the Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps, she has held fellowships with the Madeleine K. Albright Institute for Global Affairs, the Belfer Center’s Cyber Security Project at the Harvard Kennedy School, Duke University Law School as the Reuben Everett Cyber Scholar, and Stanford University’s U.S.-Russia Forum. Malekos Smith has presented her research at DEF CON, RSA Conference, and ShmooCon and has published op-eds in The Hill and Defense One, among others. She writes in the areas of science and technology, international law, international security and defense, and cybersecurity. She holds a B.A. from Wellesley College; an M.A. and A.K.C. from King’s College London, Department of War Studies; and a J.D. from the University of California, Davis, where she pursued a self-concentration in cyberlaw.
