Jennifer E. Ball is Chief Probation Officer for the Monroe County Office of Probation-Community Corrections (MCOP-CC). Her probation career spans nearly 25 years, from her beginnings in the Yates County Probation Department to her current position managing a department of over 185 staff. Jennifer’s experience lies primarily in adult services. Throughout her career, she found her interests gravitated toward training, and she is a Certified General Topics Instructor, MPTC, and a Fundamentals of Probation Practice Anchor Trainer, OPCA. In addition, Jennifer is a Certified Ethical Awareness Moderator, DCJS, and a Certified Offender Workforce Development Specialist, NIC. Jennifer served as MCOP-CC’s Staff Development Senior Probation Officer for several years before moving on to a supervisory position. Aligned with her interest in training is Jennifer’s interest in promoting the probation officer profession. Jennifer was a member, including President, of the Monroe County Probation Officers Association (MCPOA) for over seven years, and took a lead role in planning the Annual MCOP-CC/MCPOA Conference for over five years. In addition, Jennifer was a Regional Vice President for the New York State Probation Officers Association (NYSPOA) for 15 years and spent 13 of those as Co-Chairperson of the NYSPOA Annual Conference. Jennifer also has a keen interest in officer wellness, and has been a member, including Coordinator and Advisor, of MCOP-CC’s Peer Support Program since its inception over 14 years ago. Jennifer recently completed the Science of Well-Being Course from Yale University, and she provided tips and tools from this course to staff throughout the pandemic. She continues to advocate for animal therapy opportunities for the probation profession and is fairly certain there’s no problem a baby goat in pajamas can’t solve.
