Author
Jerry Craft is a New York Times bestselling author and illustrator. His book “New Kid” (Quill Tree) is the winner of the 2020 Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature. It is the first graphic novel in the Newbery’s nearly 100-year history to receive the award. “New Kid” also received the Coretta Scott King award for an outstanding work by an African American writer, making Craft only the second person to have simultaneously won both awards. In 2014, Craft was recognized by the Junior Library Guild for illustrating “The Zero Degree Zombie Zone.” His middle-grade novel, which he co-wrote with his sons, Jaylen and Aren Craft, is “The Offenders: Saving the World While Serving Detention!,” an action-adventure story designed to teach kids about the negative effects of bullying.
