Stephen Bourne is a professional engineer, climate scientist, and project director and
Fellow at Atkins, a global engineering consultancy. Mr. Bourne has twenty years of
experience in developing decision support systems to help with shared-vision planning.
Some examples include tools to, 1) help plan out ice road routes to minimize environmental
impact on the North Slope of Alaska, 2) help residents of Lake Tahoe plan out sediment
control plans to keep the lake clean, and 3) forecast asset lifecycle costs for the $14B South
Florida Water Management District’s stormwater control system. Mr. Bourne’s latest work is
the Atkins Simulator Suite, which includes City Simulator and SeaPort Simulator, two tools
that use simulation to better understand climate change impacts and how to get the best
return on investment with mitigation and adaptation approaches.
