SAME RCOI Webinar: Sea Level Rise: Military Services Response and Action

About This Webinar

Join the Resilience Community of Interest (COI) for a webinar on the military response to sea level rise (SLR), in which senior defense officials will share their roles and responsibilities and discuss what each of the services are doing in response to SLR impacts. Attendees will gain an increased understanding of the work the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard is doing to address SLR and resilience concerns while implementing the National Defense Strategy with direction from the National Defense Authorization Act and other policy directives. This webinar builds from earlier SLR and climate change webinars presented primary by the scientific community. Attendees will learn what the Department of Defense is doing to address impacts, threats, and challenges while identifying potential gaps and industry-government engagement opportunities.

Objective 1: What are the services doing about Sea Level Rise?
Objective 2: Where and to what extent are changing sea levels impacting the military mission?
Objective 3: Name the top priority for each service related to Sea Level Rise.
Objective 4: Identify three ways industry can help DoD address Sea Level Rise.

These projects include oyster reefs, saltmarsh enhancements, and living shorelines, and if proven to be successful, can be scaled up in the future up to bolster the resilience of Tyndall's 14+ miles of coastline from wave energy, erosion, and the effects of sea level rise, as well as be exportable to other coastal communities and DoD installations worldwide. Additionally, his team has developed a Coastal Resilience Implementation Plan that evaluates facility risk across the installation, caused by the combination of sea level rise with 100-yr flood events, through calendar year 2100. Implementation of this plan will help ensure the mission assurance of Tyndall AFB for generations of warfighters to come and solidify Tyndall and the premier "Installation of the Future".
