Following this fireside chat, we’ll hear from Josh McClure, SAME Mentoring Advisory Group chair, as he shares resources from SAME as well as discuss several initiatives underway to provide mentoring for all members.

Over the past two decades, J.J. has dedicated his career to the practice of military architecture. His unique architectural insights and innovative work have contributed significantly to national and global security. The buildings he designs are considered among our nation’s most mission-critical assets.

In addition to his extensive design portfolio, J.J. has also advanced the practice of federal military architecture. He led a coalition of architects across the country to establish the national Architectural Practice Committee (APC) of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), and served as its inaugural chair for its first four years. He also served on the national Board of Director for SAME, where one of his most visible achievements was the establishment of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between SAME and AIA in January 2015 that propelled the two organizations’ collaboration in continuing education, national conferences, awards and publications. For his outstanding leadership and contributions to the Society and AEC industry, SAME awarded him the 2015 President's Medal and elected him to the Academy of Fellows of SAME in 2016.

A registered architect, designer, and active member of SAME, Sal currently serves as Client Development Lead for HDR. Within SAME, Sal is Vice Chair of the YP COI, an active member of the Architecture COI, and serves locally on the Resiliency Committee. At HDR, Sal is responsible for leading, managing, and overseeing projects within the Federal Business Group of HDR’s Architecture Practice. Additionally, Sal facilitates new client development and prospecting initiatives within emerging markets and core sectors of the firm. With 12 years of AEC-industry experience, Sal has served as a ‘seller-doer’ leveraging both technical roles as well as marketing and business development, pursuit leader, and manager. Sal’s Federal project experience includes clients such as USACE, Defense Counterintelligence Security Agency, Washington Headquarters Services, Dept of Veterans Affairs, Defense Health Agency, and GSA.

Joshua McClure, PhD, PE, CFM, PMP, F. SAME is a Water Resources Team Leader at Halff in Frisco, Texas. Over the last 20 years he has become a leader in the industry, helping municipalities, state and federal agencies, and private clients solve complex drainage and flooding issues. While his expertise is in water resources, he also has significant experience managing multidisciplinary architecture and engineering teams for large, complex, design projects. He has developed a strong passion for mentoring and being mentored through his participation in the National Leadership Development Program and his leadership in the Texas Regional LDP. Josh currently is Vice Chair of Mentoring in the Leadership Development COI and the Texas Regional Fellows Point of Contact. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University as well as University of Illinois.
