ECOI Webinar: How Passive Samplers can Optimize and Reduce the Costs of Environmental Sampling Programs

About This Webinar

This session highlights passive sampling devices (PSDs) and their many advantages over conventional sampling methods for quantifying the availability of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS), hydrophobic organic compounds (HOC) and inorganic compounds in groundwater, sediment porewater, surface water and stormwater in terms of cost and data quality. This webinar will focus on familiarizing remedial project managers with the tools and concepts they need to use PSDs at their sites. Topics covered include how PSDs play a role in managing contaminated sites, the types of PSDs commercially available, the theoretical basis of passive sampling, and applications best suited to passive sampling. The course also describes methods and approaches used for successfully implementing PSDs into field programs, case studies, as well as upcoming projects funded by the Department of Defense’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP).

Agenda
  • • Passive Sampling theory, advantages, and field logistics for implementation
  • • Application to treatability studies
  • • Data analysis and interpretation
