Dr Wilmot is a Consultant Diabetologist at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton and Honorary (consultant) Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham. Her specialist interests include Type 1 diabetes, insulin pump therapy and diabetes technology, young adults with diabetes and antenatal diabetes care. She is also a principal investigator on clinical trials related to Type 1 diabetes.

Dr Wilmot was the founder of ABCD Diabetes Technology Network UK. In this role she led the delivery of a programme of educational events and online resources for multidisciplinary diabetes teams and people living with diabetes. She is a member of the National Diabetes Audit Insulin Pump Expert Reference Group and has been involved in the development of the 2018 national Type 1 diabetes service level audit. She has also led the development of a suite of national ‘best practice’ guides related to diabetes technology. Dr Wilmot was previously chair of the Young Diabetologists Forum (YDF) and represented trainees on the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) committee.

Dr Wilmot was awarded the University of Leicester medal for excellent PhD performance in 2013 for her PhD “Type 2 diabetes in younger adults”. The output from her PhD has attracted both national and international media interest, in addition to a number of prizes and publications.

Consultant Physician in Diabetes & Endocrinology at the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald
Dr Ciara Mulligan (PhD, FRCP) qualified from Queens University Belfast in 2001. She was appointed as a specialist registrar in Endocrinology and Diabetes in 2005. She obtained a Research and Development award in 2005 and completed a PhD in 2009 from Queens University, Belfast. This research was awarded the ‘Type 2 Diabetes Investigator Award’ by Diabetes UK in 2010. She was appointed as a Consultant Physician in Diabetes & Endocrinology in October 2011 at the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald and has a specialist interest in Endocrinology and Diabetes in pregnancy. She leads Diabetes clinical research for the trust and is Chairperson of the South Eastern Diabetes & Pregnancy Research Group in conjunction with the University of Ulster. Outside of work, she is kept busy with two young children and has a keen interest in exercise especially long-distance running.

Consultant Diabetologist and MRC Researcher at Manchester Royal Infirmary
Hood Thabit completed his specialist training as an endocrinologist in Ireland and received an MD from Trinity College Dublin for his research into insulin resistance, before coming to the UK. He subsequently completed his subspeciality training in type 1 diabetes and PhD in closed-loop insulin delivery systems at the University of Cambridge. His work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet and the BMJ.

He is currently a consultant diabetologist and MRC researcher at Manchester Royal Infirmary, one of the largest diabetes technology centre in the UK.
