This is the fifth of our 2021 ABCD webinar series which run on the first Thursday of each month.

This webinar, presented by Dr Victoria Salem, will focus on updating our audience of diabetes and endocrine consultants, trainees and specialist nurses on the latest issues and treatments in the field of obesity

Learning Objectives:

To gain an overview of the evidence base for lifestyle interventions currently offered in Tier 3
To gain an in depth knowledge of the medication used in the management of obesity with a focus on the latest evidence in the use of GLP1 agonists
To gain an understanding of how bariatric surgery works and when and who to refer
To gain knowledge of the latest in the field of neuroimaging and what it tells us about appetite

Vicky Salem is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Bioengineering at Imperial College London and Honorary Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Acute Medicine at Charing Cross Hospital. Her research focuses on type 2 diabetes and obesity, with a particular interest in the neuroendocrinology of the gut brain axis and advanced optical imaging platforms to interrogate pancreatic islet function in health and disease.

Stella George is the lead for inpatient diabetes at East and North Herts NHS Trust. She also holds an academic post as Regional Co-Ordinating Sub Dean for the Southern Teaching Hub at the University of Cambridge. She is a lead author of the JBDS Guideline for the use of Variable Rate Intravenous Insulin Infusion (VRIII) in medical inpatients and has contributed to several other JBDS guidelines. She the current co-ordinator for the ABCD/DUK/SfE/RCP Diabetes and Endocrinology Consultant Workforce Survey.
