The global battery energy storage system (BESS) market is booming, but there are still a significant number of factors limiting that growth. Many of these factors are linked to long-term technology risk, which has made investors hesitant. While this technology risk is sometimes only perceived, it influences the bankability of projects, leading to less attractive financing conditions and having an overall negative impact on the business case. Either assets cannot obtain any long-term financing at all, or only with very unattractive conditions.
BESS manufacturers, integrators, and asset owners all face different risk landscapes, yet all of them are concerned about long-term technology risk in a rapidly consolidating market where even top players can even go out of business.
The situation is not all doom and gloom, however, as battery analytics can accurately predict battery aging behavior and performance, which can be used by insurers to secure the payback of energy storage projects, thus eliminating significant risk. Munich RE and TWAICE have developed different analytical solutions for different players in the battery field, including integrators and owners of BESS.
In this pv magazine Webinar, we will learn how battery analytics can eliminate a significant portion of project risk, making the project easier to insure and simplifying economics. The presentations will demonstrate how both BESS integrators and owners can benefit from this joint approach between Munich RE and TWAICE.
