pv magazine Webinar | Bringing down LCOE through advanced cooling in central inverters

About This Webinar

Initiative partner: Gamesa Electric

The current evolution of central solar inverters is leading us to very high powers to reduce the LCoE for utility-scale projects. In this pv magazine Webinar, we will look at the hybrid liquid-air cooling system developed by Gamesa Electric and explore a central question: “Can a liquid-air cooling system increase production by up to 3,6%?”

Speakers Enrique and David will present the results of an independent, third-party engineering study comparing the high-temperature version of Gamesa Electric’s liquid-air cooling system to the standard market version. Market impact is also explored in this comparison.

Gamesa Electric believes the cooling system to be the central design element for inverters, developing their system with key features focused on raising efficiency levels, maintaining a lower temperature, and prioritizing compactness. The webinar will also cover how these features could achieve logistical savings and higher production rates.

The speakers will also present the cooling system and describe how to maximize energy production and yield. We will look at product features such as enhanced electrical efficiency, MPPT efficiency, high DC/AC ratio (ready for bifacial modules), “active” use of clipping, or extended MPPT range.

The Gamesa Electric PV 3X series utilizes water/glycol circuits and forced-ventilation general thermal conditioning to keep critical components within a desired operating temperature range. Both systems incorporate variable refrigeration features, depending on the inverter power production and environmental conditions. The liquid cooling system is composed of a heat exchange module and an internal cooling circuit that refrigerates inverter internal components such as semiconductors and inductances.
