An Overview of Canada's Labour Market

Rebekah Young is Vice President, Head of Inclusion and Resilience Economics at Scotiabank. She provides thought leadership on inclusive economic growth that ensures higher productivity gains translate into improvements in well-being that are shared broadly across society. She also promotes resilience such that households, firms, and the broader economy, adapt and thrive in an evolving global context. Her work underpins key Scotiabank priorities including Net-Zero Pathway and ScotiaRISE commitments. Rebekah joined Scotiabank in 2019 as Director, Fiscal & Provincial Economics, leading our work on provincial and federal economic and fiscal forecasts, public policy issues and the global auto sector. Previously, she held senior roles at the IMF, the Department of Finance, and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

She holds a B.A. in Chemical Engineering from McGill University, an M.Sc. in Environmental Policy from the London School of Economics in London, England, and an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France and Singapore.

David graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an honours degree in business administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business. He has enjoyed a successful career with progressive responsibilities in sales and marketing roles at Nestle, Pepsi-Cola Canada, Canwest Global Communications Corp., and Torstar.

At Nestle, Canwest, and Torstar he oversaw new product development and launches of both traditional consumer packaged goods products and media properties. While Director of Business Development for the Star Media Group (a division of Toronto Star Newspapers Ltd.) David was responsible for the acquisition of Canadian Immigrant magazine.

His role as associate publisher of Canadian Immigrant magazine entrenched him as a leader in marketing to prospective and new Canadians. This experience has given him an in-depth understanding and respect for the immigrant experience.

David was instrumental in the launch of the Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards. This people’s choice award uncovers and celebrates the untold stories and achievements of outstanding Canadian immigrants from all walks of life.

David also played an instrumental role in the creation and successful launch of Champions of Change. This national program celebrates Canadians’ domestic and international volunteerism – produced by CBC news in association with Outpost magazine and sponsored by Manulife Financial.

David is active in the community and has given considerable time to help organizations such as Frontier College, the Canadian Film Centre, the Toronto PWA Friends for Life Bike Rally, and the Internationally Educated Professionals Conference.
