Dr Lilach Gavish is a senior research associate at the Faculty of Medicine of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) and serves as head of phototherapy division of the institute. She also serves as a scientific consultant for leading laser and energy-based device industries in Israel. Her multi-disciplinary background includes B.Sc. in Biology, B.Sc. in Physics, M.Sc. (Cum Laude) in Microbiology, PhD in Medical Sciences, and post-doctoral fellow at the Hebrew University.

Her research is focused on the effect of Photobiomodulation (PBM) from bench to bedside. In this field, she has published in leading journals, written invited chapters, given oral presentations, and served as a reviewer in a variety of journals. She has been recently appointed as the treasurer of the WALT.

Dr. Gavish has initiated several clinical studies to investigate the effect of PBM on acceleration of healing of chronic wounds, musculoskeletal pain, cancer induced toxicities, and overuse injuries. Her basic science efforts focus on the kinetics of mitochondria after PBM by live cell imaging and special immunohistochemical stains in vascular smooth muscle cells of relevance to the integrity of the vascular wall in abdominal aortic aneurysm. She has recently received an award for Young Investigator Excellence in Photobiomodulation Basic Sciences from the WALT that recognizes these efforts.
