Fighting Dis/Misinformation With BIPOC-Owned and -Serving Community News

Saturday, September 24, 2022 · 2:30 p.m. · Pacific Time (US & Canada)
About This Webinar

The reality of a highly-digital Latino, Black, and youth media landscape combined with a sizable information gap in support for Black, Latine-owned news media and outlets that target younger people in the United States opens up a world in which many in these communities are exposed to the real effects of mis and disinformation regularly. The Pivot Fund combats this by investing in news organizations and information sources trusted by the communities in which they are embedded.

In this session, we'll hear from the founders of a few of these outlets and discuss how they're fighting mis and disinformation for the communities they serve - lessons applicable to any journalism organization.

This session is designed for:

  • People who currently run or would like to start a community news organization

  • Editors or funders interested in learning about organizations making strides in serving BIPOC communities well

  • Anyone invested in fighting dis/misinformation in communities and building trust
