The majority of all lost-time injuries can be attributed to falls in the workplace. Employers have a duty to ensure that workers are protected from all potential fall hazards.

It is imperative that workers understand the hazards of working at heights and the appropriate fall protection system designed to protect them from falling.

Our course is designed to provide users of fall protection systems with adequate knowledge to be able to assess the job, evaluate the hazards, and choose the correct fall protection system when working at heights.

By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

• Recognize working at heights hazards
• Explain the hierarchy of controls
• Discuss safe work plans
• Identify and assess when ladders are appropriate
• Explain proper inspection, care and use of ladders
• Describe types of warning methods and physical barriers
• Identify when warning methods and physical barriers are required
• Discuss limitations, application and storage of different fall protection systems
• Calculate fall distances
• Demonstrate how to inspect equipment, don and doff a harness, and maintain 100% tie-off
• Discuss the differences between permanent, temporary and structural anchors
• Select the appropriate fall protection equipment when working in a platform
• Explain the purpose, roles and responsibilities of workplace parties with respect to a rescue plan

The course includes theory and a hands-on demonstration of proper harness and lanyard inspection and donning. The course content is based on multiple CSA Standards pertaining to fall protection.

Target Audience: Any user of a fall protection system (guardrails, travel restraint, fall arrest) supervisors, JHSC members, and health and safety representatives
