The 2020 Billboard Music Awards nominations, which dick clark productions and NBC announced on Tuesday (Sept. 22).

The “Wow.” rapper is nominated 16 times in 15 categories, followed by first-time nominees Lil Nas X with 13 and Billie Eilish with 12. Khalid ties Eilish with 12 nominations.

Among other nominees is Kanye West, whose Jesus Is King album grabbed him nine nominations in Christian categories including top Christian artist, top gospel artist, top Christian album, top gospel album and top Christian song. West also competes against himself for top gospel song, in which “Closed on Sunday,” “Follow God,” “On God” and “Selah” are all nominated.
There are three fan voted categories this year — the Billboard chart achievement award, top social artist and top collaboration. Voting opens on October 1 and will be available on TikTok, this year’s primary voting platform.

Kelly Clarkson will return as host for the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, which will broadcast live from The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.

This year’s awards are based on the chart period of March 23, 2019 through March 14, 2020, which was intended for the originally scheduled April 29, 2020 show, postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
After the coronavirus pandemic forced organizers to delay the annual ceremony back in April, music lovers can now mark their calendars for Wednesday, Oct. 14. Kelly Clarkson is returning as the host of the Billboard Music Awards for the third consecutive year.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the nominees for two of the top categories—Top Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album—were announced live on Today. Notable nominees from the categories include Taylor Swift, Khalid and the Jonas Brothers. Previously announced Icon Award recipient Garth Brooks is also set to appear.

Prior to its postponement, the 2020 Billboard Music Awards were initially supposed to be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Plans for a pandemic-friendly show have not been revealed, but if the Emmys are any indication, there’s no doubt that a virtual awards show can be done!
Following well-received, socially distant presentations of the Emmys, the Academy of Country Music Awards, and the MTV VMAs this summer, the Billboard Music Awards will try its hand at a virus-free show on Wednesday, as Kelly Clarkson hosts live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

In anticipation of the broadcast, Mark Bracco, executive producer at Dick Clark Productions, detailed the many safety protocols behind the Billboard Music Awards, which will feature performances from John Legend, Demi Lovato, BTS, Luke Combs, Bad Bunny, Brandy, Doja Cat, Post Malone, and many more. Garth Brooks will receive the Billboard ICON Award.
