College football’s 2020 season is underway, and action is set to continue into Week 7 with a busy slate of matchups. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Week 7 slate is lighter than usual. However, the schedule is deeper than it was at the start of the year, and the Big Ten joins the weekly slate on Oct. 24. Week 7 features 28 matchups, and the action begins on Wednesday night with Coastal Carolina playing at Louisiana in a key Sun Belt contest.

Arkansas State hosts Georgia State for more Sun Belt action on Thursday. On Friday, Tulane hosts SMU and BYU plays at Houston. On Saturday, the schedule begins with a handful of games kicking off at Noon ET, including Clemson-Georgia Tech, Pitt-Miami, Auburn-South Carolina, Cincinnati-Tulsa and Kentucky-Tennessee. The afternoon wave for Week 7 features Louisville-Notre Dame, UCF-Memphis, Ole Miss-Arkansas, Texas A&M-Mississippi State and Virginia-Wake Forest. The final wave of games at night features Georgia-Alabama, North Carolina-Florida State, and Boston College-Virginia Tech.

Surprise performances and unexpected outcomes are anticipated each weekend in the wild world of college football. Even if everyone knows they are coming, guessing when and where they will happen is difficult.

The USA TODAY Sports college football staff — Jace Evans, Paul Myerberg, Brent Schrotenboer, Erick Smith, Eddie Timanus and Dan Wolken — weigh in with some bold predictions for Week 6 of the season:

Alabama enters its Saturday matchup with Georgia a shocking 65th in the country in total defense after its defensive debacle against Ole Miss. But the Crimson Tide offense keeps rolling along, even with Tua Tagovailoa and two first-round wide receivers gone to the NFL. Steve Sarkisian’s unit is third in the country in yards per game, and the Crimson Tide is the nation’s highest-scoring team. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs resemble the team Alabama used to be in the early days of its dynasty, their second-in-the-nation defense complemented by a methodical, smash-mouth offense.
