The Center for Cancer Research (CCR) Fellows and Young Investigators (CCR FYI) is an organization comprised of non-tenure track, early-career scientists from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) at the National Institutes of Health, supported by NCI’s CCR and Center for Cancer Training. NCI hosts more than 1,200 trainees from countries around the globe and various socio-economic and scientific backgrounds. Over half of the trainees are postdoctoral, research, or clinical fellows. The CCR FYI Steering Committee’s mission is to advocate for fellows and to work closely with NCI leadership, offices, and organizations to enrich their professional development, to augment intramural training, and to foster collaborations. They organize events to help fellows stay competitive in the ever-challenging scientific field. The CCR FYI annual colloquium provides fellows the opportunity to learn from leaders in the field, to participate in customized educational workshops, to present their research, to get feedback from colleagues, and to start collaborations with peers. The CCR FYI also hosts professional skill enhancement workshops, such as a bi-weekly seminar series geared towards the postdoctoral community, scientific presentation skill series, social networking events, and job searching and job posting resources. The CCR FYI gives back by being involved in several outreach programs. The seasonal newsletter, another activity on the CCR FYI list, keeps the community informed about the latest prospects, events, and news. Thus, the CCR FYI strives to provide NCI trainees further professional advancement, to promote collaboration, to generate additional educational and mentoring opportunities, and to maximize their training experience.
