A talk by Laura Hubert.
This session begins with an overview of STEM as a set of knowledge, skills, & tools, accompanied by an innovative mindset, that enables students to engage meaningfully and authentically in their learning and with the world around them. We will explore ways in which a STEM model across content areas and learning contexts creates opportunities for students to have voice and choice, to develop a growth mindset, and to cultivate essential 21st century skills, as well as SEL competencies.
Participants will learn how elementary content and practice standards connect to the Engineering Design Process, and explore some of the innovative tools and resources that can be used in the classroom and library media center to create STEM learning experiences, such as design challenges, coding and robotics, and a range of materials in a makerspace.
