Our guest speaker this week is Rowan Weismiller. Rowan has a strong background in design and transitioned to a software career a few years ago. He is now frontend developer at Bench.co. Connecting with a community was the key piece to help him in that transition.
When you show up in your community and make your presence about serving the community, there is no shortage of opportunity. Rowan Weismiller, Front-end Software Engineer at Bench.co, learned this lesson a few years into his tech career when he transitioned from being a designer to becoming a software developer, and he would like to share with you the story of how he learned this, and where it is leading him now.
When starting out as a developer, it is difficult to see where the best opportunities are. However, once you start participating in your community, opportunities become more obvious. Connecting with people has always been core to the experience of using and making apps online — it is no coincidence that connecting with the community is beneficial to this end.
