District and Community Nursing pressures – implications for wound care delivery

About This Webinar

District and community nurses play a pivotal role in the nation’s health. From multifaceted clinical management, prescribing and end of life care to liaison and advocacy with care providers, complex funding assessments and so much more, the district and community nursing role is complex. Yet it is a role under unprecedented pressure, even beyond the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. Julie will provide an update following a recent survey that reveals the pressures and consider the impact that these will have on the delivery of person centred wound care.

Head of School, Nursing and Midwifery, Keele University
A successful clinical career as a District Nurse culminated in a move to Keele University in 2003. Over the ensuing 18 years, I have incrementally achieved excellence in learning and teaching and leadership of students and colleagues within the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the wider University.

Throughout my time at Keele, and more specifically over the last 7 years, my role has developed to include a range of key programme and School senior roles. Following a rigorous process, I was promoted to Professor of District Nursing in January 2020. My promotion was awarded in recognition of my academic and professional achievements in the discipline of nursing. In April 2021, again following a rigorous selection process, I was appointed to the role of Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Keele University. My research background has focused on quality of life for chronic wound patients. Julie is the current Chair of the RCN District and Community Nursing Forum.
