Sharon Flora is an award-winning Dry Eye Optometrist with over 20 years of experience in optics. A graduate of the University of Bradford and Anglia Ruskin University, Sharon has cultivated a distinguished career marked by her exceptional expertise and commitment to improving the lives of those suffering from dry eye conditions. Her recent accolade as the BCLA Dry Eye Practitioner of the Year 2023 underscores her innovative approach to treatment and her dedication to elevating the standard of care in this specialty.

As the founder of The Eye Retreat Medispa, Sharon has pioneered a unique clinic that seamlessly integrates holistic treatments for dry eye care with aesthetic services. With locations at David Lloyd in Leeds and The Door W4 in London, she ensures that her patients receive personalised, expert care in an environment that prioritises comfort and well-being. The Eye Retreat Medispa has quickly gained a reputation for providing some of the most advanced dry eye treatments in the UK. Sharon is also the owner of a full scope Optometry practice, Wood Street Opticians, for the last 17 years.

Sharon's innovative spirit is exemplified by her introduction of cutting-edge technologies to the realm of dry eye treatment. Notably, her clinic is the first in the UK to utilise the Inmode Envision device, and she is acknowledged as the first clinician to employ radiofrequency treatments for dry eye—methods that not only reduce symptoms of ocular surface disease but also enhance the aesthetic appearance around the eyes. As the Lead Key Opinion Leader for the Inmode Envision device and the first UK KOL for the CSI Dry Eye Software, which utilises artificial intelligence for a precise diagnosis and treatment plan pathway.

In addition to her clinical work, Sharon has lectured at prestigious institutions, including Moorfields Eye Hospital, and has contributed her insights on the impact of dry eye disease and has been invited as a speaker for the Menopause Symposium in 2023 to discuss the effect of dry eyes on menopausal women. Her involvement in educating peers highlights her passion for advancing knowledge and practice in ocular surface disease.

As Sharon articulates, “Dry eye disease affects millions of people worldwide, causing discomfort, irritation, and even vision problems. As an optometrist, I am dedicated to advancing dry eye care, which is why I consistently invest in the latest diagnostic tools, treatments, and technologies. I always seek a deeper understanding of the pathophysiology of dry eye disease to ensure my patients receive the most up-to-date and effective care available.”

Sharon’s ultimate goal is to help individuals regain not only their vision but also their confidence. By empowering her patients to reclaim their independence—whether by driving again, selecting eye-safe makeup, or simply enjoying life's little pleasures—this significantly contributes to patients overall mental health and wellbeing.
