Tailoring leadership development opportunities and curriculum to Division 1 student athletes continues to be a challenge for leadership educators. Student athletes have demanding schedules that often limit their ability to participate in campus leadership programming and team responsibilities that prevent student athletes from engaging in co-curricular social change projects. To bridge this gap, we partnered with Athletics to create a unique leadership education opportunity tailored to the schedules, experiences, and needs of student athletes.
After participating in this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Articulate the barriers to involvement experienced by student athletes.
- Identify the leadership learning goals relevant to student athletes in our example.
- Record the process by which we collaborated and coordinated our program.
- Think critically about the benefits of the program by reviewing student data.
- Consider how the program could be replicated on their home campus.
