Geelong vs Collingwood live stream: Former AFL star Warren Tredrea has ripped into league bosses for the guernsey clash 'debacle' that has again reared its ugly head before Geelong's semi-final clash against Collingwood.

Magpies president Eddie McGuire warned of a clash between the two teams this weekend, whose club kit is navy blue and white horizontal stripes (Geelong) and black and white vertical stripes (Collingwood).

McGuire claimed earlier this week that he had a handshake agreement with former Cats president Frank Costa 20 years ago for Geelong to wear white shorts and Collingwood to wear black shorts when the two teams met. But last year when they played each other in the qualifying final fans blew up when Geelong wore navy blue shorts, causing a clash.

Tredrea has had enough of the ongoing drama, and blamed both the AFL for its inaction and Collingwood for their stubbornness for the controversy.

"I find this an absolute debacle from the AFL. This has happened for how many years?" Tredrea told Wide World of Sports' Talk of the Town.

"Why doesn't the AFL step up? The AFL's attitude on this is to let the club sort it out. Well, that's when you open the door for Eddie McGuire and Frank Costa and David Koch or Jeff Kennett.

"It only seems one club has great issue. Essendon is a proud club, and they have a clash strip that changes significantly. Collingwood's clash strip is not enough. Maybe go all black or all white, we're talking for one week."

Tredrea and AFL insider Sam McClure said the league should look to the world game to see how to better deal with jersey clashes.

"In soccer overseas...it's all governed by FIFA. The problem here, the AFL don't have the you-know-what's to make a tough call and demand everyone has a clash strip," Tredrea said.

"You might have to wear it maybe once a year - well, that's part of the deal. Here we are in a COVID year, where we can get a season underway in hubs and we still can't sort out guernseys. What a disgrace."

"It's farcical as far as I'm concerned," McClure added.

"Manchester United's third kit is black and white for goodness sake. It looks like Newcastle - no one cares. If there's even a hint of a jumper clash on Saturday night, in a semi-final, what a joke that will be.

"What matters surely is the emblem and the players representing."

The additional factor that clubs and the AFL are missing out on with the persistent drama surrounding guernsey clashes is the "gold mine" potential of having better third kit options.

Tredrea said that Port Adelaide have benefitted greatly from it, and in a time of financial uncertainty for many clubs during the coronavirus pandemic, capitalising on another guernsey offering could be a huge money-maker.

"Port Adelaide has made over $2 million this year because in Round 2 in The Showdown, they were set to wear the historic Port Adelaide Magpies prison bar jumper," the Power great said.
