You can't lose the matchup if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Bama's strategy against the Tennessee Volunteers last week. Bama was the clear victor by a 48-17 margin over Tennessee. That 31-point margin sets a new team best for Bama on the season. Their RB Najee Harris was on fire, punching in three rushing touchdowns.

Nick Saban is ready for his 69th birthday celebration on Saturday as No. 2 Alabama welcomes Mississippi State for the 105th meeting in this long-running series.

The Halloween birthday for one of college football's all-time greatest coaches has always been a unique moment in the college football season, in particular as it caps a month that the Alabama coach has dominated since he arrived in Tuscaloosa. Saban is 48-2 in the month of October as Alabama's coach, including an undefeated record at home. The arrival of Mississippi State also brings another opponent to the table for Saban to extend his record 94-game winning streak against unranked opponents.

But not everything seems like a celebration around the Alabama football program as it continues to settle in after the loss of Jaylen Waddle for the season due to an injury suffered in the win against Tennessee. The Tide offense is expected to remain prolific, but it's impossible to replicate or totally replace a player with the all-purpose abilities of Waddle. With five games left on the regular-season schedule including key division battles against LSU and Auburn, keeping the offense at a high level is key to the pursuit of an SEC championship.

Mississippi State enters on a three-game losing streak with personnel issues of its own, though not due to injury. Mike Leach wowed the nation in his SEC debut when the offense put up 623 passing yards and 44 points in a win at LSU, but since then the Bulldogs have just 30 points combined (and not all scored by the offense) in three straight losses to Arkansas, Kentucky and Texas A&M. Meanwhile, MSU came up short against the Texas A&M Aggies two weeks ago, falling 28-14. The Bulldogs were down 28-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. No one had a standout game offensively for MSU, but they got scores from WR Malik Heath and QB Will Rogers. Rogers ended the game strong with a streak of ten complete passes.

The Crimson Tide are the favorite in this one, with an expected 31-point (!) margin of victory. Those who got lucky with them against the spread last week might want to hold off on placing bets this time since the team has yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread.

Bama took their contest against the Bulldogs when the two teams previously met in November of last year by a conclusive 38-7 score. Will Bama repeat their success, or does MSU have a better game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
