Member, Jackson Kelly
Michelle Elmore Wooton is a Member in the Banking, Coal, and Renewable Energy industry groups, focusing primarily on commercial litigation, real estate, and oil and gas. She practices out of the Firm’s office in Charleston, West Virginia. Michelle’s practice focuses on both commercial real estate development and mineral development. She has significant experience in mineral law and has represented clients in connection with multiple transactions. She handles all aspects of mineral development, with an emphasis on oil and gas, coal, and wind energy. Her mineral development practice includes title work, curative actions, leases, and transactional agreements. Michelle practices in negotiated acquisitions, commercial development and financing. She also has significant experience in the convenience store and gas station law arena. Michelle is a leader within the Firm, serving as the co-leader of the Firm’s internal land and natural resource development practice group. She was selected as a fellow in the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, and selected by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© for Oil and Gas Law (2018). She graduated from The University of Maryland in College Park with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English focusing on British and American literature, and received her J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law.

Mr. Richardson practices transactional real estate law. His practice is concentrated on real estate development (industrial facilities, office, distribution/logistics, healthcare, university and retail projects), including land acquisition, zoning and land development approvals, and utility, roadway and other infrastructure development. He handles office and industrial leasing for a variety of tenant and landlord clients, including national leasing programs for corporate tenants, and is responsible for the Firm’s global office lease portfolio. He represents owners and developers in connection with the development, acquisition and financing of power generation facilities and natural gas production and processing facilities. Mr. Richardson represents borrowers and lenders in a variety of real estate financing transactions, with an emphasis on project development. He serves as a practice group coordinator for the firm’s Real Estate Investment, Development and Finance Practice Group, is a member of the Firm’s opinion committee and is a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED-AP). Mr. Richardson has been with K&L Gates since 1986, and has been a partner since 1995.

Gillian Flick has been a part of a team consistently since she started playing soccer at age 10. The lessons on teamwork that Gillian has learned throughout her years as a soccer player and now a coach are just a few of the ingredients that make Gillian a successful lawyer and trusted colleague. Gillian uses her skills to help clients in the energy industry in Appalachia, as well as higher education institutions in Pennsylvania.

Gillian started her career in the energy industry and has grown to love the challenges that the fluctuating energy market provides. Clients appreciate that Gillian is nimble, responsive, and efficient, and therefore a good steward with their resources. Gillian works with oil and gas developers on their transactional matters, including title examinations and title opinions and due diligence for acquisitions. In addition, she assists oil and gas clients in the preparation and review of all documents relating to mineral title ownership, including easements, deeds, leases, and other transactional contracts and documents.

As a member of the firm’s Higher Education Team, Gillian has counseled colleges on FERPA-related issues. She is ready and able to defend colleges and universities in grievances, faculty tenure matters, and employment matters.

Gillian is a member of the firm’s Alternative and Renewable Energy Team and assists clients with their wind, hydroelectric, and solar operations.

Gillian’s belief that “we win as a team and lose as a team” makes her a valued partner who helps her clients navigate the unknown, strengthen their teams, and come out with a win.
