Gregory Birkett, OCT, is an educator with the Toronto District School Board. He has over 14 years of experience in the field of education. In addition to teaching, Greg is also a playwright, published author and award-winning poet who performs at many community events throughout the GTA. He currently writes material for CBC Kids Digital and has written curriculum for the Ontario Ministry of Education, the Ontario Black History Society and freelance for the Toronto Star. He was also a contributing author to a Black History textbook used in Ontario, Nova Scotia and Bermuda. Mr. Birkett was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History and an A.H.E.N. Excellence in Teaching Award winner. Greg is currently partnering with Nelson Education to assist in providing educators with resources that promote inclusion.

Coleen Birkett is an educator with the Toronto District School Board. She has over 20 years of classroom experience in Canada, Bermuda, and Central America. In addition to her work in the classroom, Coleen has also worked as an instructional coach. Her volunteer experiences include presenting workshops to educators and students in Ghana, West Africa and serving as a school accreditation committee member in New York. Ms. Birkett has also been a contributing author to a Black History textbook used in Ontario, Nova Scotia and Bermuda. Coleen is currently partnering with Nelson Education to assist in providing educators with resources that promote inclusion.
