The power of money – climate finance

ABOUT THIS WEBINAR
ClientEarth Summit - Day 2, Global landscape, global players

Session 6: The power of money – climate finance
10 November at 12:30pm GMT | 1:30pm CET - Duration 1 hour

Responsible investment is integral to shifting the world towards a zero carbon future. How is the law ensuring that climate risk and opportunity are at the heart of corporate decision making?

The decisions of investors and business leaders are foundational for action on climate, and have the power to significantly accelerate the path to net zero. Corporate laws also mandate a legal duty to manage climate-related financial risks, minimise the risk of stranded assets, and capitalise on the investment opportunities presented by the net zero transition.

The environmental community has welcomed the proliferation of net zero commitments in recent months from corporations pledging to align with the goals of the Paris Agreement. But how will these commitments play out in practice? Our panel will discuss the current and future investment implications for climate stability, the role of law in holding companies and investors to account, and, crucially, the importance of bold and swift action to meet the target of halving emissions by 2030 to ensure global climate goals are met.
