This June we honor the LGBTQ movement and their fight for freedom, justice, and acceptance. Many are unaware that it was the LGBTQ community that fought for the legalization of medical cannabis in the 90s to help their loved ones sick and dying from the AIDS epidemic that paved the way for legal cannabis and safe access across the country. But many transgender individuals do not enjoy the same freedom as modern-day cannabis consumers and are more likely to be penalized for drug possession, and subject to harassment, persecution, and unfair treatment under the law.

PLUS is proud to partner with the Transgender Variant & Intersex Justice Project to bring awareness to this organization and the important work they are involved in.

The Transgender Gender-Variant & Intersex Justice Project (TGIJP) was founded in 2004 with the help of a Soros Justice Fellowship from the Open Society Institute to provide legal services for transgender and gender-variant/non-conforming people, primarily those in CA prisons, jails, and detention centers.

TGI Justice Project is a group of transgender, gender-variant and intersex people, inside and outside of prisons, jails, and detention centers, creating a united family in the struggle for survival and freedom. They work in collaboration with others to forge a culture of resistance and resilience to fight against human rights abuses, imprisonment, police violence, racism, poverty, and societal pressures. TGIJP works to create a world rooted in self-determination, freedom of expression, and gender justice.
