Mike McEvoy is the Chief of EMS for Saratoga County, New York, the Chief Medical Officer
for the West Crescent Fire Department and a nurse clinician in the cardiac surgical ICU at
Albany Medical Center where he also teaches critical care medicine. He was appointed to a
vacancy on the EMS Section Executive Committee in 2013, elected secretary of the section in
2014, elected chair of the Section in 2016 and again in 2019. He has been a member of IAFC
since 2007.

Executive Editor - FireRescue1 and Fire Chief
Chief Marc Bashoor has served as the Executive Editor for FireRescue1.com and FireChief.com since 2018. Chief Bashoor is a 41 year veteran of of the fire/EMS/Emergency Management fields, having spent 30 years with the Prince George's County Maryland Fire/EMS Department - including 6-1/2 years as Chief of Department, 5 years as the Mineral County West Virginia Emergency Services Director and 3-1/3 years as the Highlands County Florida Public Safety Director/Fire Chief. In Florida, Chief Bashoor was charged to establish a countywide fire rescue system, combining 10 independent volunteer fire departments and the County EMS delivery into 1 fire rescue system.

Chief Bashoor also served as an adjunct instructor for 4 years with the Texas A&M National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center exercise delivery team, and 1 year with the National Fire Academy new Fire Chief program. Chief Bshoor has presented at most of the major industry conferences - including EMS Today, and has presented on behalf of the NFPA in Beijing China and Sao Paulo Brazil. Chief Bashoor held Maryland EMT certification for 35 years, and is currently a Nationally certified Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor, and Fire Inspector also speaking around the country on topics of personal accountability and the public trust.

Melanie Brener is a Business Analyst based out of Boston, MA. Melanie supports revenue maximization efforts and reimbursement initiatives for the EMS community in the states of Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. Melanie also has supported our School-Based Services initiatives serving public school districts throughout the entire State of Wisconsin. Melanie also supports our Public Safety Consulting Services team as a Research Assistant and assists with business development and training efforts on the Medicare Ground Ambulance Data Collection program. Melanie graduated from Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs with a Bachelors in Public Policy studies, and she is currently studying at Boston University's School of Public Health as a candidate for her Master of Public Health (MPH).

EMS Medical Director - Williamson County (TX) EMS
Dr. Jeff Jarvis is the EMS Medical Director for Williamson County EMS and Marble Falls Area EMS in Central Texas as well as the Chief Medical Officer for FlightbridgeED. He maintains his clinical practice at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Round Rock, Texas. He is board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services. He began his career in EMS over 34 years ago, has worked in three states as a paramedic, and retains his active paramedic license today. He teaches extensively and has authored multiple articles on EMS issues in both peer-reviewed and industry journals. His research interests include airway management and clinical performance measures. He serves on the board of directors of the National EMS Quality Alliance where he chairs the measure development committee. He discusses EMS research on his podcast “EMS Lighthouse Project Podcast” and looks forward to hearing comments or feedback on Twitter @DrJeffJarvis.

Director of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery - The George Washington University Hospital
Babak Sarani, MD, FACS, FCCM is Director of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and Co-Medical Director of Critical Care at the George Washington University Hospital, and Professor of Surgery and Emergency Medicine at GWU School of Medicine.

A fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Society of Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Sarani is also a member of Board of Directors of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST), the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the Society of Critical Care Surgeons. Previously, Dr. Sarani served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, PA and Reading Hospital, in Reading, PA from 2005-2011. While there, he implemented and served as the Medical Director of the Surgical Rapid Response Team at the University of Pennsylvania and was the interim Trauma Medical Director at Reading Hospital.

Dr. Sarani received his medical degree from George Washington University and was an elected member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and the Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency at George Washington University and received subspecialty training as a fellow in Trauma and Critical Care Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, in Pittsburgh, PA.

In addition, Dr. Sarani serves as a mentor to medical students, surgical residents and trauma/critical care fellows and has received numerous invitations to lecture on topics related to trauma surgery, critical care, and rapid response systems in the United States and Europe. Dr. Sarani's commitment to teaching is evident in the numerous teaching awards he has received from GWU, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pennsylvania. He founded and served as the first moderator of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma TraumaCast podcast and holds several organizing roles in scientific meetings. His research interests include diagnosis and management of coagulation disorders following trauma, nutrition support in the ICU, delirium in the ICU, and optimal design of rapid response systems.

Mr. Shapiro is the Director of EMS & Operational Medical Training for the GW EHS Program. Geoff teaches a variety of classes to on campus undergraduate, graduate, and medical interns & residents at GW. Mr. Shapiro developed international EMS systems & domestic high-threat response programs, delivers training to military special operations forces, as well as being a Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, and Faculty/Interagency Planning Group member of the Joint Counter Terrorism Awareness Workshop Series (JCTAWS). Mr. Shapiro was first certified as a paramedic by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) in May 1995, and has more than 25 years’ experience as a Paramedic/Firefighter and Instructor continuing to support field operations for various entities.
