The weight reduction drive for using lighter metals in vehicles is increasing as the automotive industry moves towards electrification. At the same time, weight reduction is also becoming increasingly important in other areas, such as portable devices or machinery, where lighter equipment and components help reduce energy consumption. Metals such as magnesium and titanium are therefore finding more widespread use in a variety of applications deployed under different conditions. The Magnify® process ensures that the appropriate final coating can be applied to these light metals to meet adhesion and desired cosmetic appearance requirements.

With Magnify® we have developed a robust pretreatment and coating process for magnesium. The system consists of a pretreatment process which, in combination with an electroless nickel coating, ensures excellent adhesion of the subsequent metal layer to the substrate. Various coatings such as copper, nickel, chromium, tin or zinc-nickel can be applied to the Magnify® layer according to the component requirements.

During this webinar Shakeel Akhtar, Global Product & Business Development Manager, will explain how our electroless nickel system for magnesium can be used for the preparation of magnesium and titanium alloys prior to electroless and electro-plating.

The webinar will cover the following topics:
• Properties of magnesium and its alloys
• Applications for magnesium
• Pretreatment methods for magnesium
• Magnify® pretreatment and plating system
