This free-to-attend CPD webinar has been organised by British Journal of Hospital Medicine, supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Cook Biotech, Inc, West Lafayette, IN, USA.

The presenters will discuss their methods of treating patients with difficult wounds, including those with epidermolysis bullosa (EB) and chronic ulcer and following Mohs surgery.

They will advise on how to select the right treatment for each patient, provide tips on how to prepare the wound for treatment, and share their experiences on how to effectively care for patients in the community setting.

Presenters

Dr Leanne Atkin

Lecturer Practitioner, University of Huddersfield

Dr Leanne Atkin PhD MHSc RGN is a Lecturer Practitioner at University of Huddersfield, additionally being Vascular Nurse Consultant at Mid Yorks NHS Trust. She completed her Master’s degree in Advanced Nursing Practice in 2010 and her PhD in 2017. Her research focus was the treatment and management of peripheral arterial disease.

Her passions include leg ulcer management, quality agenda, peripheral arterial disease and advanced wound management. She has published over 50 articles related to lower limb ulceration pathways, vascular diseases, wound assessment and quality of life.

She is currently leading the ‘Legs Matter’ campaign, aiming to raise patient and public awareness of lower limb conditions and working with the National Wound Care Strategy, chairing the lower limb stream of work.

Editor, British Journal of Hospital Medicine

Rebecca graduated from Cambridge University with an Honour’s degree in pharmacology in 1994. She started work as a subeditor on the British Journal of Hospital Medicine and the British Journal of Therapy and Rehabilitation. Rebecca has been Editor of the British Journal of Hospital Medicine (http://www.magonlinelibrary.com/toc/hmed/current), a monthly review journal for hospital doctors, since 1998.

She is also Editorial Director of MAG Digital Resources and Group Editorial Director for Mark Allen Group, which includes thirty different healthcare publications in its portfolio (http://www.markallengroup.com/ma-healthcare#publications).

Dr Angelos Karatzias

Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon, Cyprus

Dr Angelos Karatzias is a plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon with a license to practice in Cyprus, Greece, Croatia and the United Kingdom. He studied medicine in Greece / University of Thrace and proceeded to obtain a Master’s of Science in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair from the University of Cardiff.

Dr Karatzias performs a variety of facial, breast and body cosmetic procedures. As a plastic surgeon he focuses on flawless aesthetic results and simultaneously respects natural appearance. He is a fellow of the European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (FEBOPRAS) and is currently practising at Aretaeio Private Hospital in Nicosia, Cyprus.

He is the Medical Director of the Mobile Wound Healing Unit and has a special interest in wound healing of acute, subacute and chronic wounds. Dr Karatzias is also a highly specialised reconstructive surgeon and operates demanding reconstructive cases for restoring functionality of every part of the body.
