About
This lecture will provide a practical approach to diagnosing and managing the common clinical signs of PU/PD.

PU/PD is a common presenting complaint with myriad causes. This lecture will provide a logical approach to the patient workup focusing on new diagnoses to consider, diagnostic tests available, and treatment.
Agenda
  • Understand how to apply a logical stepwise approach to patients presenting with PU/PD.
  • Review how results of CBC, biochemical profile and urinalysis with sediment examination can lead to a diagnosis or direct further evaluation (e.g., endocrine testing).
  • Appreciate how urine specific gravity can be used to narrow the list of differential diagnoses and how trending the USG in a patient over time can identify early disease.
  • Recognize that renal disease is a common cause of PU/PD and early detection is critical to good patient outcomes.
  • Understand the importance of obtaining pre-treatment urinalysis in all cases.
