X5 Music was founded in Stockholm 2005 with the goal of being an innovative record label. Since 2016, X5 Music is a part of Warner Music Group.
X5 has a focus on downloading and streaming within the music business. Today with over 400 000 recordings and 11 000 digital albums, spread over multiple genres, X5 is a market leader. Wall Street Journal has described X5 Music as a “digital trailblazer” for their unique and compelling products, offering customized solutions for the end customer.
As with most startups founded in the 2000’s, X5 started with their own server infrastructure. They soon realized that in the rapidly changing music industry X5 needed to change in order to maintain their position as the market leader. Microsoft Azure was the natural choice; a dynamic infrastructure able to scale instantly and almost infinitely.
Basefarm started working with X5 in 2017 and has since been an advisor on their infrastructure architecture, application design and migration to public cloud. Following the move to Microsoft Azure, security has improved and managed infrastructure solutions like Azure Virtual Desktop have opened up new and innovative ways of working.
