Angela will take us through her approach to teaching and learning at AIS and the science of reading for early literacy learners. Understanding that reading is not a natural skill, Angela will give us a sneak peek into her classroom and the strategies used including developing phonological and phonemic awareness, using decodable books and unpacking the skill of orthographic mapping.

    Elementary School Teacher
    Angela has been teaching for over 10 years in IB PYP schools. Angela received her Bachelor of Education at the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne for which she was awarded the Dean’s scholar for Academic Excellence, in 2007 and 2009. She also has a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University in which she majored in History. Throughout her time she has developed her leadership skills as the Prep Head of Year, as well as Year Level Coordinator for year 5 and 6. She has taught across all year levels from Prep- 6. Originally from Melbourne, Australia, she has been teaching in Singapore at The Australian International School since 2015.

    Angela and her husband moved to Singapore in 2015 with their son Sebastian. In 2017 they welcomed their second child Matilda. When not teaching, Angela enjoys keeping active, reading a good book and travelling.
