TRACE is funded by the EU Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) in the framework of the "EGNOS Adoption in Aviation 2018" programme.
TRACE is based on the development of a smart beacon, which will allow the remote identification of drones flying at very low altitudes. To this end, TRACE promotes the use of EGNOS in the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) sector. EGNOS is an Augmentation System based on a network of satellites and ground stations that is used to improve the performance of different satellite navigation systems (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS) in Europe. In this manner, TRACE will enable the safer integration of drones into the airspace through U-space, making it easier for traditional aviation pilots to know the position of drones.
