Best Practices and Tools for reaching 2030 Targets

About This Webinar

Last year AIA Philly COTE presented the AIA’s Top Ten Toolkit, a set of 10 measures that can be used to holistically describe any project’s approach to sustainability. Now called the Framework for Design Excellence, this web-based platform provides not only a framework, but also a suite of resources, which include links to the best available materials, a distillation of the most impactful strategies, case studies of built work that exemplify each measure, and a comprehensive excel-based tracking tool for use on projects. In April 2020, Bunny Tucker and David Hincher teamed up with COTE leaders across the country as part of the AIA National COTE Component Working Group to share resources and create a standard presenta on on the 2030 Commitment for fellow 2030 Working Groups, AIA Chapters, and individual firms. As we shared the needs expressed by 2030 Working Group members in Philadelphia, we learned that leaders across the county were hearing similar requests from their members. As a group, we quickly iden fied several gaps in the tools and resources available to support firms in achieving 2030 targets that would compliment the current materials in the Framework for Design Excellence:
● Updated and synthesized best prac ces from 2030 Signatory firms.
● Case studies that describe the itera ve design process for achieving 2030 Targets.
● Evalua on of third-party tools to support designers in achieving 2030 Targets.
● Best prac ces and workflows for visualizing data from the DDx.
Each of these resources are currently under development and slated for completion in August 2020. We hope
to return to Forum this year to connect design professionals with these new resources that seek to support the
design and construction of net zero buildings that respond to the AIA’s resolution on climate change.

Agenda
  • Design Professionals will be able to identify tools available to support the design of Net Zero buildings.
  • Design Professionals will be able to compare how these tools are used across firms of different sizes.
  • Design Professionals will be able to compare how these tools are used across different project types.
  • Design Professionals will be able to evaluate when and by whom available tools should be used to support the design of Net Zero buildings.
