Ms. Gottesman specializes in advising clients regarding all types of employee benefits and executive compensation matters. She counsels employers in the establishment and administration of qualified and nonqualified retirement benefit plans and welfare benefit plans including issues of plan design, compliance with ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code and fiduciary responsibility. She advises publicly and privately held corporations in the design and administration of executive compensation arrangements and equity-based compensation plans. Abby Natelson focuses her practice on management-side employment counseling and litigation. In addition to providing advice and support to clients on a broad array of workplace issues, Abby has specific expertise in the areas of investigations and benefits counseling.

Abby has conducted investigations into workplace complaints of discrimination, harassment, misconduct, compliance violations and fraud, among other issues. Abby leads NFC’s corporate investigation team, specifically focused on assisting corporate in-house investigators conduct comprehensive, efficient and effective investigations with the support of NFC’s skilled legal experts.

In the area of employee benefits, Abby helps clients develop employee benefit programs, prepares plan documents and required notices, reviews plan documents and plan administration for compliance with ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code, and assists employers with the resolution of complex issues and the correction of plan errors. Abby also represents employers in IRS and DOL audits.

Abby counsels clients of all sizes across many industries on employment issues relating to employee hiring, performance management, discipline and termination; accommodations and leaves; wage and hour matters and COVID-19 issues. Abby provides clients with comprehensive risk assessments and mitigation strategies to navigate complex legal issues. Abby works closely with employers to develop policies and handbooks that are not only compliant with all applicable legal regulations, but also align with their core values.

Should an employment dispute arise, Abby defends employers in federal and state court, in arbitration proceedings, and before EEOC and state agency investigators. Abby has successfully litigated discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, ERISA and contract disputes for clients.

Abby has a strong commitment to giving back to the community. In addition to regularly representing incarcerated individuals in parole revocation matters, Abby is also is active in NFC’s Social Responsibility Committee, where she volunteers to assist businesses navigate employment concerns.

Member of the Firm, Director Quality Control and Employee Benefit Plans Audit and Consulting Group
Elizabeth Harper (Liz), Member of the Firm, joined SobelCo in the fall of 2009 to assume the role of Quality Control Senior Manager. In 2014 she was promoted to Director with responsibility for reviewing all of the financial statements and service organization control (SOC) reports issued by the firm along with client correspondences ensuring that the highest quality standards are met and that the reports are in accordance with the established authoritative standards. Liz is dedicated to ensuring that the firm complies with its internal quality standards. This includes involvement with the engagement teams during all phases of the work, personnel training and development, and monitoring of engagement quality. Liz is also responsible for client service of SOC, employment benefit plan (EBP) engagements and other audits.

In 2016 Liz was given the additional role as Director of the Employee Benefit Plans Audit Group and in 2017 was elected as a Member of the Firm. Liz brings insights gained based on her previous experiences at a "Big Four" firm and a local CPA firm to all of the roles she plays at SobelCo.

While at a local firm, Liz had a wide variety of responsibilities across a range of industries, which she draws on daily at SobelCo. From her years at KPMG, Liz is able to leverage the knowledge she gained managing financial and internal control audits, quarterly reviews and agreed upon procedures, with well-known clients ranging from Philips Lighting to Ricoh Corporation. This global exposure adds value to the current SobelCo regional environment and it will be a critical component of future growth as the firm continues to expand, serving national and international clients in the coming years. By combining her perspectives from private industry and public accounting, she can provide meaningful solutions to SobelCo's clients.
