Webinar hosting presenter Paul Schubert
CEO Strategic Bio Fuels, Executive Committee Member Global XTL Summit
Dr. Paul F. Schubert is the Chief Executive Officer of Strategic Biofuels. Strategic Biofuels is a consulting firm focused on renewable fuels technology and project development. Dr. Schubert has over 35 years of experience in renewable fuels, natural gas monetization, mechanical integrity, and commercialization of innovative technologies in the petrochemical and natural gas industries. Prior to joining USA BioEnergy he served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director for Velocys. In this capacity he was responsible for the development and commercialization of Velocys’ Fischer Tropsch technology for converting biomass, waste, landfill gas, and natural gas to renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, and wax products. This included responsibility for engineering, reactor and catalyst manufacturing, HSE, and R&D. This resulted in the successful commercial scale demonstration of the technology in partnership with Waste Management and NRG in Envia Energy LLC’s landfill gas to renewable diesel and wax plant on Waste Management’s Oklahoma City, OK landfill.

He previously served as Global Sales Director for Asset Integrity Management and Director of Operations for SGS, the largest testing, inspection, and verification company in the world. Before that Dr. Schubert served as VP of R&D with Syntroleum and increasing levels of technology development and management with Catalytica, Phillips Petroleum, and Engelhard Corporation where he was responsible for commercialization of multiple products in the process and regulatory compliance industries. Dr. Schubert is an inventor on 16 US patents and an author of over 40 publications.

MD Leidos Process Chemicals
Throughout his tenure with Leidos, Dr. Herb Kosstrin has been a leading force in the company’s entry into new marketplaces for chemical process, solid waste management, cogeneration, and renewable resource projects. He has more than 40 years of experience in the development, demonstration, and evaluation of processes that enhance environmental performance, produce alternative fuels, and provide alternative sources of power generation.
Dr. Kosstrin is nationally recognized for his expertise in alternative energy and other advanced technologies and, over the past decade, has been integral to the growing investment in biofuel and gasification technologies. He frequently serves as project manager for bankability and independent engineer’s reviews of first-of-a-kind special technology projects. Evaluations of new technologies investigate both the technical and potentially commercial aspects of processes based on their conceptual designs, with consideration of such issues as the environmental impact of the technology, potential system availability and redundancy requirements, the effect of fuel quality on the process, and constraints related to site-specific characteristics. Without this unique support, some of the world’s now more “commercial” technologies would remain less advanced.
In addition to involvement in the earliest stages of projects, Dr. Kosstrin has authored numerous publications, presented many papers on gasification and other advanced technologies, and was awarded two patents for alternative technologies. In 2010, he was appointed a Leidos Technical Fellow, recognizing both his technical accomplishments and the unique resource he offers to the firm and its staff.
