Instructional Math Coach, Clifton Elementary Milken Educator CO ‘16
Felicia Casto has lived and been involved in elementary education for 20 years in Western, Colorado. She started as an instructional assistant then taught kindergarten through second grade at a small rural school for 9 years. From there she moved into a math coach role supporting two elementary schools in the district. She then went back to the classroom as a math interventionist and math coach to support teachers with interventions. Her current role is Elementary Math Coach. Felicia hasn’t always been passionate about mathematics, she was fast at mathematics until about seventh grade when her memory could not retain all of the formulas and she had nothing to connect the formulas to. After teaching math she began to work with her students on their conceptual understanding of mathematics; she was learning right alongside of her students. It was then when she fell in love with Math and the understanding that Math was in everything that we do all of the time.
Felicia won the Milken Educator Award in 2016 and was recognized as a top 30 teacher in the United States. She was selected to be on the Governors Educational Leadership Council and is pursuing district leader ship opportunities. Felicia is a lifelong learner who loves to be with teachers and students every day!

Global Math Department webinar platform hosts Engagement: Just 3 Acts Away
The Global Math Department began as a group of teachers who knew each other through Twitter, math education blogs and Twitter Math Camp. Since 2012 The Global Math Department community has grown into a multi-faceted group of math educators who love to share their ideas related to teaching and learning mathematics. We recognize that as educators we are charged with promoting equity and access within mathematics instruction. In addition, we believe it is crucial that teachers be provided with quality resources and ideas that they can use immediately with their students. Lively and friendly conversations in our weekly webinars encourage all participants to share and continue to grow as educators.
