Good Evening, Frances.

Please help me to understand? So much to masticate and understand. How does one totally detach if one is married with children, grandchildren etc with all the chores one must do in daily life?
Do we not participate in family functions and do we limit daily chores ?
Can you shed some light on this for me?

Thank you,
Carolyn

Dear Carolyn,

The question about detachment is important.

Of course it is your 'duty in your state of life' to carry out your commitments to your family. Where detachment somes in is in the motivation.

WHY do you do what you do? Humans have many reasons for why they do things. When we want to love God and neighbour as God has asked of us, then we reach out to others, not because of any benefit to ourselves, but simply because we want to please the Lord and to obey His Holy Word.

In families people can relate to each other from complex motives which have nothing to do with Divine Love, and the value of our actions lies in why we do them, and how much love we put into them.

We must relate to others as people separate from ourselves 'in their own shoes' regardless of the consequences for ourselves. This will mean, for example, that we will never push them to carry out an agenda of ours. we let them live the life God has called them to etc.

In everything we do we join Jesus and enter into His acts, and let Him sanctify even the smallest things that we do in daily life. We ask our Blessed Mother to teach us how to serve others with humility, patience and love...laced with forgiveness!!

I hope that this helps.

Blessings and love in the DW

Hello Frances,

Thank you for responding to the question of detachment. There are questions of clarification I would like to ask but this particular vehicle is not conducive for these.

I thank you for taking the time to answer the question. I have a better idea of how to detach but still not quite there in discerning the areas in which to detach, if that makes any sense.
The knowledge you share is extraordinary and I look forward to every class you teach.

Thank you and God Bless You,
Carolyn
