You have an interesting take. However, you don't seem to distinguish between the Hillel Pharisees and the Shammai Pharisees. It was the Shammai Pharisees that were allied with the Sadducees but the Hillel Pharisees were closer to the ideas and teachings of the Essenes.

this comment is not by Gail Carroll about the Hillel and Shammai Pharisees but by Brother Gilbert Bloomer.

Around the year 2000 an elderly missionary priest told me that by around 2030 there would be a dearth of priests, and that each Christians would again meet in each other's houses where the head of the house would be the priest.
I must say I found his totally unlikely and dismissed it.
Listening to the last part of your talk today could open my mind to what he said. Adam, as head of the household, was the priest.
Any opinions on this Frances?
Frances Hogan
The practice from the beginning of history was that the head of the house was the priest. At the time of the early church Christians met in each others houses, and the apostles (and other priests?) served them the Holy Eucharist. In missionary countries today the dioceses are so large that the priests can only visit different areas once a month, but that does not make the head of the household a priest! The people hold Eucharistic services with the Sacred Hosts consecrated by the priest on his last visit and wait for the priest to return to them In the future. In the West, the church will be severely persecuted in the future, with priests hunted down - as happened in the past - so we may have to meet in each others houses again, but I doubt if that would constitute the head of the house a priest!
