You did such an engaging way of defining the parallel's between the state of "much confusion" between these 4 groups of Essene's and how the development of these 4 groups led to the often subtle differences among these 4 groups. No wonder the abundant flavors of Christianity far exceeds the 31 flavors of ice cream touted by Baskins-Robbins with the population of Christians in far excess of 4000 individuals as in the original Essene community.
St. Paul has often been described to me as, a Jew's Jew - indeed zealous for the Law but, was often labelled by my many of my scripture scholar's as a Pharisee - I enjoy learning to see with different eyes - always need my actual eyesight to be corrected on occasion. I also understand that St. Paul was unusual in that he was both a Roman citizen and Jew during this time. I wonder if the DSS's impact that understanding?
Preceding, the illuminating encounter with Christ, EVERYTHING in St. Paul's life was relativized by the presence and action of the living God. For myself, greater participation in living in the Divine Will continues this trajectory while simultaneously deepening my union with Christ past, present and future. It sure is edifying to learn about the past that today shed's light for me on the current necessity to separate politics from religion by infusing the entire world with the one will of Christ on earth as it is in heaven. It won't necessarily separate politics from religion in a juridical and prescribed way but I hope in the manner which is hospitable to the One Will of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit who dwells within the hearts among the many.
Thanks Helene! I'm trying to give a comprehensive picture of the time Jesus lived in and what He did about it. There will be more on Paul as his writings reflect the thinking of his time and the influence of the DSS, because the scripture scrolls were the Word of God for them all, and the monks at Qumran took the scrolls from the temple in Jerusalem to their monastery for study, prayer and commentary. They also made copies for others. We know that Paul had some scrolls himself also. In his writings he shows he had let go of the 'old Pharisee' in him to embrace the true liberty in Christ.
Fiat, Frances

Is there a problem with the recording and sound? It keeps stopping xx
Just wanted to express my appreciation for the remarkable task you have done in opening up the Dead Sea Scrolls for us. With gratitude for so much research and time involved to present us with a class that is spiritually rich and full of so many helps in understanding the Bible. (and the 36 volumes of the Book of Heaven). Deeply grateful.
