How to use the BigMarker Conference Room
Quick Start
Quick Presenter Tutorial
Hosting a meeting on BigMarker is easy and requires no technical knowledge. You are able to connect with
global audiences immediately. All you need is a computer with an Internet connection and audio capabilities (a
headset or a microphone, and speakers).
This page will explain how to use all the features available to you in the Conference Room. First, you need
to understand the three roles people can play in a conference, because these roles determine the features
users have available to them.
Participants: are the people attending the conference. They can share their
voice, broadcast their webcam, and type out messages with chat function. Participants cannot upload documents
or share their desktop.
Presenter: is the person leading the conference. While having the same privileges as
the participants, presenters have the ability to upload documents and share their desktop. A conference can
only have one presenter at the time, but the role of presenter can be transferred to other users during an
event.
Moderator: is the administrator of the conference. Moderators can transfer the
presenter role to other users. They can also mute and unmute participants in a conference.
Let’s have a closer look at these roles and the features available to each role:
Participants
The following is the overview of the highlighted features of the participant.
Listening and sharing your voice
After entering the Conference Room, you will automatically join the voice conference. The headset icon
allows you to engage or disengage the audio portion of the event. Joining the voice conference is required
for sharing your voice and hearing the presenter. If you are ever disconnected from sound, make sure to
toggle the voice function to on.
Share your webcam and see each other
You can share video by using a built-in or external webcam. It is possible for multiple participants and the
presenter to share video simultaneously.
Raise your hand
To get the attention of the presenter, you should click the little hand icon in the Participant Panel.
Raising your hand is a subtle way to attract the presenter’s attention and works especially well in larger
meetings.
Use public and private chat
The Chat Panel allows you to have public or private chats with the other participants or the presenter.
Select what users to message and start typing in the message bar.
Instant Translation
You can chat with other members in the conference even if they don't speak your language! Simply choose the
language you prefer to write in and the chat will automatically be translated to the language of each
participant's chosen language.
Presenter
The presenter is indicated with a presenter icon in the Participant Panel. Note that the moderator of the
conference can (temporarily) switch the role of presenter to another participant. This can be practical when
another presenter needs to demonstrate something or upload a document.
Share any PDF or Microsoft Office documents
As the presenter, you can upload any PDF or Microsoft Office document. You can even upload multiple
documents and switch between them during the presentation. All participants see the current page or slide as
you move through your presentation.
Grab everyone’s attention
Within the Presentation Panel, the location of your cursor is indicated by a red dot, so everyone can see
what you are pointing at. You can also zoom in and out of different areas of the Presentation Panel to offer
a more engaging experience.
Share your Desktop
As the presenter, you have the ability to share your desktop. When you share your desktop, a Java program
will launch and ask for your permission to run. You have the option to share only a portion of your desktop
or the entire screen, leaving you in control of your presentation.
Moderator
The moderator is the conference’s administrator. If the conference is created as an open discussion room or
meeting room, then the participants are the moderators, and any participant can be made the presenter of the
room. However, if the conference is created as an auditorium or lecture room, then only the conference creator
is the moderator.
See all participants
The Listener Panel displays which users are currently connected to the voice conference.
Mute or unmute any participants
You can mute and unmute participants by clicking the icon located at the bottom left side of the Listener
Panel. You can also unmute and mute individuals. You can lock their muted or unmuted status by click on the lock icon.
In an auditorium conference, when you mute a participant, they are unable to change their mute status.
Make a presenter
As a moderator, you can select anyone to become the presenter by clicking on the participant’s name and then
clicking on the Switch Presenter button.
